about evoke systems
Evoke Systems Limited is a British software company founded in September 2001, primarily focusing on the development of software to improve
the efficiency of flight operations.
The Electronic Flight Operations System (EFOS) draws on the founders'
experiences in commercial flight operations, development of secure networks,
intelligent data analysis and software authorship.
In March 2003, Evoke systems was awarded a DTI Smart award to conduct a feasibility study
into the concepts of an electronic flight operations system. This nine-month
project established the technical feasibility of the system and outlined the
requirements of the pilots and cabin crew, the regulators (CAA/JAA/FAA) and
airline managers. The results of the study identified appropriate hardware
equipment, software processes and architecture, human factor issues and
regulator requirements.
Evoke Systems has subsequently drawn upon its connections in the airline
industry and academia to recruit staff with specialist skills and the knowledge
ideally suited to the development and delivery of innovative software.
The company also provides bespoke web-based applications, communication
solutions, consultancy, training and technical resolutions for the airline and
other industries. Evoke Systems is an HP Business Partner and has been a
Microsoft Certified Partner since early 2003; the company is an Alliance member
in the Tablet PC Partner Programme.
project management and consulting
Every airline will use a unique combination of data providers, application
vendors and legacy systems within their operations departments. Add to this
the differences in aircraft equipment and route structures and it can be seen that a
successful EFOS implementation can only follow from a bespoke iteration of
generic applications, architecture and system processes.
Evoke Systems has looked at the software and hardware considerations
for an EFOS implementation and identified a number of managerial,
training, regulatory, cultural and administrative factors that are
crucial to the success of EFOS.
Particular knowledge was gained in the following areas:
Flight crew, management & operational staff training;
Service level guarantees & support;
Standard operating procedures;
Certification & the regulator;
Implementation strategy;
Human factors design, regulations and usability considerations;
Integration of hardware and software with existing cockpit systems;
Employee buy-in;
Flight Operations mindset & philosophy;
Synergies with other departments.
The EFOS project presents an worthwhile opportunity for the airline to
modernise the way it conducts flight operations and to prepare for expansion.
Evoke Systems understands fully that EFOS must be accepted by the
regulator as a safe and sensible way to operate; equally it must be accepted by the
workforce.
